Hiking With Kids - Blue Ridge Parkway, Beech Mountain, Seven Devils North Carolina
One of the best activities to do in the North Carolina mountains is HIKING! Not only is it a wonderful exercise, but it's also a great way to take in some scenic views, learn about the local ecology, and let kids explore!
So... where are the best places to hike with kids? Here are some of our favorite trails!
Otter Falls - Seven Devils, NC (pictured)
Just under a mile long, this in and out trail features a great waterfall at the bottom and a stream that is awesome for exploring! When the water is low you can splash around at the bottom of the falls. Just watch out... wet rocks are slippery! Dogs are also welcome to use this trail as long as they are leashed. Otter Falls is located about 25 mins drive time from Three Bears Chalet.
Beacon Heights - Blue Ridge Parkway mile marker 305.2
This short, 0.6 mile in and out trail features STUNNING views of the mountains and valleys and is accessible March through October (as long as the parkway is open). Rising only about 100 feet, this trail is perfect for kids or others who may not be able to get around other trails as easily. It's an easy, short hike with incredible views. This is a must-do trail while you're in the area. The trail is also lush with foliage. Spring and Summer are the perfect times to hike through canopies of rhododendrons and mountain laurel.
Emerald Outback Trails - Beech Mountain, NC
Located near the peak of Beech, the Emerald Outback trails offer a unique opportunity to see some of the best Beech Mountain has to offer. Heavily used as bike trails in the summer months, the Emerald Trails are fairly easy to navigate and offer both forest hiking and scenic overlooks. If you are visiting Three Bears Chalet and don't want to leave the mountain to hike, this is one of your many options close to home!
